Libatio is a wine bar nestled inside a 19th-century winery, right in the heart of the Douro Valley, in Peso da Régua. Created and run by Maria Aguiar, Libatio breathes new life into the family’s historic wine cellar, which occupies the bottom floor of Maria family house. Libatio is a place that showcase wines from diverse wine producers and wine regions across Portugal (and across Europe as well) bringing them to Douro for informal tastings and pairing them with simple and delicious snacks. At Libatio, wine is celebrated as part of Portugal’s cultural heritage. Maria is passionate about discovering and sharing new wines, especially from producers she knows personally—people whose vineyards she’s walked, wineries she’s visited, and philosophies she respects. In this sense, the curatorship of Libatio wine selection favors wines from winemakers who are deeply connected to their craft and the land, seeing wine as an expression of agricultural roots. Inside the bar, a long, inviting counter stretches almost the entire length of the wine cellar and its accessible from both sides to encourage conversation and connection among guests.
